Obituary for Gail F. (Garrison) Lunn

Gail F. (Garrison) Lunn, beloved wife, Mom and Nana, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, January 13, 2019 at a Bangor healthcare facility. She was born on January 10, 1936 at her grandparents’ home in Mars Hill, to Stanley E. and Laura V. (McCrum) Garrison. Gail grew up in Mars Hill and attended local schools, graduating from ACI in 1954. Gail married the love of her life, Robert Lunn, in October of 1956. They lived in Alaska, then came back to Maine and lived in Mars Hill, Vanceboro, Houlton, and finally, Fort Fairfield, where they spent the past 46 years. Gail had a strong work ethic, picking potatoes at a young age, then working at the Mars Hill Town Office, Farm Credit in Presque Isle and Houlton, and her most important job, mother to her four children. When those children were mostly grown, she went back to college and received her teaching degree from UMPI in December of 1982. She taught kindergarten and first grade for MSAD #20 in Fort Fairfield from 1983 to 1994 and loved every minute of it. In later years, after retirement, she would go back to the elementary school to substitute teach, tutor students in reading, and volunteer for special activities. Gail’s salvation and faith were important to her. She came to know Christ at a Vacation Bible School in Mars Hill. No matter what church she was attending, she was helping children come to know the Savior she loved. She helped with teaching Sunday School, Awana programs and Pioneer Girls. Robert and Gail spent 20 summers volunteering at Living Waters Bible Conference in Weston, Maine, where Gail worked in the laundry as long as she could, and then worked in the bookstore. She was currently a member of the United Baptist Church in Mars Hill; the same church she grew up attending. Gail was predeceased by her parents, Stanley and Laura, and a special sisterinlaw, Jacqueline B. (Townsend) Garrison. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Robert; her son Michael and his wife Cheryl (Philbrook) of Niceville, Florida, her daughter Susan of Hodgdon, her son Mark and his wife Debbie (Wright) of Houlton, and her daughter Becky Woodman and her husband Michael of Fort Fairfield; seven grandchildren who were the light of her life; Bobby Lunn of Los Angeles, California, Nikki (Lunn) Seagraves and her husband Logan of Oviedo, Florida, Jennifer (Lunn) Molloy and her husband Sean of McMinnville, Oregon, Julia (Lunn) Rines and her husband Chris of Houlton, Nick Lunn of Old Town, Seth Woodman of Fort Fairfield and Laura Woodman of Cedarville, Ohio. She also leaves behind 5 great-grandchildren who will hear lots of wonderful stories; Luke and Reagan Seagraves, Atticus and Henry Molloy and Siena Rines. Gail is also survived by her brother Wayne E. Garrison of Mars Hill and a sister, Karen; many brother and sister-in-laws whom she enjoyed visiting with, and many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be Saturday, January 19 from 12 p.m. at the United Baptist Church in Mars Hill. Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. with Rev. Mitch Ross and Dr. Wendell Calder officiating. A time of visitation and fellowship will be at the church following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to CEF of Northern Maine, PO Box 28, Mars Hill, ME 04758 or Living Waters Bible Conference, Scholarship Fund, PO Box 250, Danforth, ME 04424. The family would like to thank all of the caring doctors and nurses working in the Cardiac Unit at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center for their gentle service in caring for Mom in these last few days. You will never know how much you were appreciated. Mom had a plaque she loved to read and look at: “This is the beginning of a New Day. God has given me this day to use as I will. I can waste it or grow in its light and be of service to others. But what I do with this day is important because I have exchanged a day of my life for it. When tomorrow comes, today will be gone forever. I hope I will not regret the price I paid for it.
